How do I diagnose basic issues when using NFC enabled cards?

To troubleshoot use of the Smartcard function for TapID check the below:

Is the reader plugged in and detected by the OS?
Is power management for the reader turned off?
Is the smartcard reader service(s) running?
Is the path to the FIDO APPID sans a "/" on the end of the path?
Is the FIDO enabled NFC card for the user registered in the target server (AppID)?
Is the registry setting correct for use with smartcards?
Is TapID/Push enabled in the registry?
